What does an Ecological Pyramid indicate ? Explain the three different types of upright Pyramids in nature with help of an example each.

Ecological Pyramid : It is the graphcal representation of different trophic levels. In a pyramid, base always represent first trophic level and successive levels are made towards the apex.
Different tupes of upright pyramids :
(i) Pyramid of Number : The no. of individual/unit area of various trophic levels. At each trophic leval, there is increase in size and decrease in no. of organisms because of their slow reproduction.
e.g. Terrestrial

(ii) Pyramid of Energy : The amout of energy trapped per time and area in different trophic levels.

(iii) Pyramid of Biomass : Pyramid of Biomass shows a sharp decrease in biomass at higher trophic levels.
