Why is it not possible for an alien DNA to become part of a chromosome anywhere along its length and replicate normally ?

This is because in a chromosome there is a specific DNA sequence called the origin of replication which is responsible for initiating replication. The alien DNA has to be linked to this origin of replication for it to multiply in the gost organism.
