(i) Oral Contraeptive Pills : combined oral contraceptive pills or birth control pills contain two hormones-estrogen and progesterone or progesterone only pills that contain progestogens. They have two functions. The main one is to prevent ovulation. The second function is to disrupt the normal growth of the internal lining (endometrium ) so that the embryo cannot implant in it as also the alteration of cervical mucus to prevent sperm entry.
(b) The pills have to be taken daily for a period of 21 days starting within the first conception is required.
