General characteristics of connective tissue : (i) Connective tissues are most abundant and widely distributed in the body of complex animals. It links tissues / organs of the body. Supports various structures in animal body. (ii) Connective tissue arises from the mesoderm. (iii) Mainly three components are present in connective tissue : matrix, cells and fibres. (iv) Shapeless matrix is present as extracellular material which is associated with glycoprotein and monopolysaceharides. This matrix is as fluid, gel or in thick form. (v) This tissue has good capacity of regeneration. (vi) The function of connective tissue is conservation of power, protection of organs and maintenance of totality of body structure.
