Comment on the statement respiration is an energy producing process but ATP is being used in some steps of the process.

Respiration is a catabolic process occuring step wise. In which energy is produced where energy is required in biotic process, energy is provided by hydrolysis of ATP. When break down of one ATP takes place ADP + Pi are released. Similarly one phosphate bond breaks and 73 Kcal energy is obtained .
Thus ATP is used and respiratory balance sheet is balanced.
