When a substrate is being metabolized,...

When a substrate is being metabolized, why does not all the energy that is produced get released in one step. It is released in multiple steps. What is the advantage of step-wise release ?

The process of aerobic respiration is distributed in four steps GlycolysiS, TCA cycle, ETS and oxidative phosphorylation.
The formation of ATP occurs in respiration step by step in each step.
The product of one reactant is the process for other process. Thus entry of substances or break down of substances is based on requirement of ATP. That whole process is catalysid by enzymes thus releasing of energy in sequence that makes that process more work efficient. So either energy is released or stored.
