Acetaldehyde gives silver nitrate on treating with ammonical silver nitrate solution (Tollen.s reagard). Acetaldehyde gives a red precipitate on treating with ammonical cuproic salt solution complexed with tartrate (Fehling.s solution) Acetone does not react with Tollen.s reagent and Fehling.s solution
