An aluminium wire and a steel wire of the same length and cross-section are joined end to end. The composite wire is hund from a rigid support and a load is suspended from the free end. If the increase in the length of the composite wire is 2.7mm, find the increase in the length of each wire.
`(Y_(Al)=0.7xx10^(11)Nm^(-2), Y_("steel")=2xx10^(11)Nm^(-2))`

Total increase in length `,e = e_2 + e_2`
`e_1 + e_2 = 2.7 mm` . we know ` e = (FL)/(AY)`
As F,A, L are same for both the wires . So `e prop 1/Y`
`e_1/e_2 = Y_2/Y_1 = (2 xx 10^11)/(7 xx 10^11) = 20/7 , e_1 = 20/7 e_2`
substituting in `e_1 + e_2 = 2.7 mm`
`20/7 e_2 + e_2 = 2.7 mm , (27 e_2)/(7) = 2.7 mm`
` e_2 = 0.7mm , e_1 = 20/7 e_2 = 20/7 xx 0.7 = 2.0 mm`

An aluminium wire and a steel wire of the same length and cross-section are joined end- to-end. The composite wire is hung from a rigid support and a load is suspen-ded from the free end. If the increase in lengthe of the composite wire is 1.35 mm, find the ratio the (i) stress in the two wires amd (ii) strain in the two wires. (Y_(Al)=0.7xx10^(!1)Nm^(-2),Y_("steel")=2=10^(11)Nm^(-2))

An Aluminium and Copper wire of same cross sectional area but having lengths in the ratio 2: 3 are joined end to end. This composite wire is hung from a rigid support and a load is suspended from the free end. If the increase in length of the composite wire is 2.1 mm, the increase in lengths of Aluminium and Copper wires are: [Y_(Al)=20xx10^(11)N//m^(2) and Y_(CU) = 12xx10^(11)N//m^(2)]

A brass wire of cross-sectional are 2mm^(2) is suspended from a rigid support and a body of volume 100cm^(3) is attached to its other end. If the decrease in the length of the wire is 0.11mm, when the body is completely immeresd in water, find the natural length of the wire. (Y_(brass)=0.91xx10^(11)Nm^(-2),rho_(water)=kg ^(-3.)
