A steel plate of face area 2 `cm^(2)` and the thickness 1.0cm is fixed at the lower face. A tangential force of 10N is applied on the upper surface. Find the lateral displacement of the upper surface with respect to the lower surface. Rigidity modulus of steel `=8.4xx10^(10)Nm^(-2)`

`A = 2cm^2 = 2 xx 10^(-4) m^2 , L = 1.0cm = 1 xx 10^(-2)m, F = 10N, G = 8.4 xx 10^10 Nm^(-2) , l = ? , G = (FL)/(A Delta x)`
The lateral displacement of the upper face with respect to the lower face is `Delta x = (FL)/(AG)`
` = (10 xx 1 xx 10^(-2))/(2 xx 10^(-4) xx 8.4 xx 10^10)`
` (1)/(16.8) xx 10^(-7) m = 5.952 xx 10^(-9) m`
