Two inclined frictionless tracks , one gradual and the other steep meet at A from where two stones are allowed to slide down from rest , one on each track as shown in figure . Which of the following statement is correct ?

A

Both the stones reach the bottom at the same time but not with the same speed

B

Both the stones reach the bottom with the same speed and stone I reaches the bottom earlier than stone II

C

Both the stones reach the bottom with the same apeed and stone II reaches the bottom earlier than stone I

D

Both the stones reach the bottom at different times and with different speeds .

The correct Answer is:
C

K = U (Conservation of energy )
`1/2 mv^(2) = mgh`
`v = sqrt(2gh)`
h is same for both stones ,hence v is same .
For stone - 1 , For stone -2 ,
`a_(1)=g sin theta_(1) " "a_(2)= gsintheta_(2)`
`a_(1)lt a_(2) ( :. theta_(1) lt theta_(2))`
Hence ,stone II reaches earlier than stone I .

A car is moving with at a constant speed of 60 km h^(-1) on a straight road. Looking at the rear view mirror, the driver finds that the car following him is at a distance of 100 m and is approaching with a speed of 5 km h^(-1) . In order to keep track of the car in the rear, the driver begins to glance alternatively at the rear and side mirror of his car after every 2 s till the other car overtakes. A ray of light travelling with a speed c leaves point 1 shown in figure and is reflected to point 2. The ray strikes the reflecting surface at a distance x from point 1. According to Fermat's principle of least time, among all possible paths between two points , the one actually taken by a ray of light is that for which the time taken is the least (In fact there are some cases in which the time taken by a ray is maximum rather than a minimum). Which of the following statement is in accordance with Fermat's principle

One end of a light spring of natural length 4m and spring constant 170 N/m is fixed on a rigid wall and the other is fixed to a smooth ring of mass (1)/(2) kg which can slide without friction in a verical rod fixed at a distance 4 m from the wall. Initially the spring makes an angle of 37^(@) with the horizontal as shown in figure. When the system is released from rest, find the speed of the ring when the spring becomes horizontal.
