In a fully turgid cell

A

`Psi_(w)=Psi_(s)+Psi_(rho)`

B

`Psi_(w)=` zero

C

`Psi_(w)=-Psi_(s)-Psi_(rho)`

D

`Psi_(w)=Psi_(s)=Psi_(rho)`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

In case of fully turgid cell, the net movement of water into the cells is stopped. the cell is in equilibrium with the water outside. the water potential in such a case will be zero (0).
A cell at full turgor its osmotic potential and pressure potential equal but opposite in sign. Therefore, its water potential will be zero. For example a cell has its `psi_(s)` of - 10 bars and `psi_(p)` fo 10 bar, the resultant water potential will be zero as follows: `psi_(w) = psi_(s) + psi_(p)`
`psi_(w) = - `10 bars + 10 bars
`psi_(w) = 0` bars
