A stone of mass 1 kg is lying on the floor of a train which is accelerating with `1ms^(-2)`. The net force acting on the stone is

A

zero

B

1N

C

5N

D

10N

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Here, mass of the stone, m=1kg
As the stone is lying on the floor of the train, its acceleration is same as that of train `therefore "Force acting on the stone," F=ma=(1kg)(1ms^(-2))=1N`
NOTE: Here weight of the stone is balanced by the normal reaction of hte floor.

Give the magnitude and direction of the force acting on a stone of mass 0.1 kg (a) just after it is dropped from the window of a stationary train (b) just after it is dropped from the window of a train running at a constant velocity of 36 km//hr (c) just after it is dropped from the window of a train accelerating with 1 ms^(-2) (d) lying on the floor of a train which is accelerating with 1 ms^(-2) the stone being at rest relative to the train . Neglect the resistance of air throughout .

STATEMENT-1 : A stone of mass m kg is dropped vertically down for the window of a train which is at rest and than the same stone is dropped from the window of the train accelerating with a m//s^(2) . The net force in the space acting on the stone is mg downward in both cases. because STATEMENT-2 : Vertical and horizontal motions are independent of each other in two dimensional projectile motion.
