A wire having resistance 20 `Omega` is bent in the form of a circle as shown in the following figure:

What will be the resistance between two end points A and B located on the diameter?

A

`5 Omega`

B

`10 Omega`

C

`20 Omega`

D

` 40 Omega`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

The resistance of the wire is R = 20`Omega`.Hence, the resistance of the upper part of the circle `=R/2 = 10 Omega`
Similarly, the resistance of the lower part of the circle `= R/2 = 10 Omega` .

As shown in the figure above, resistors with resistances `10 Omega and 10 Omega` are in parallel. So, the equivalent resistance of the combination will be
`R. = ((10) (10))/(10 + 10) =5 Omega`
