Which one of the following has highest d...

Which one of the following has highest dipole moment ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`CCI_(4)` molecule has zero dipole moment due to its symmetrical structure.
`CH_(2) CI_(2)` has max dipole moment, due to resultant dipole moments of two C-CI and C-H bonds reinforce one another.
The resultant dipole moment of `CHCI_(3)` is smaller than `CH_(2)CI_(2)` molecule because resultant dipole moment of two C-Cl bonds is opposed by resultant dipole moment of C-Cl and C-H bonds.
