A galvanometer having a coil of resistan...

A galvanometer having a coil of resistance 12 `Ω` gives full scale deflection for a current of 4 mA. How can it be converted into a voltmeter of range 0 to 24V.

Text Solution

`G=12 Omega , I_g = 4 mA = 4 xx 10^(-3) A,G to V =0- 24 V`
` X= (V)/(I_g) -R_0`
`X= (24)/(4 xx 10^(-3)) -12 =6 xx 10^3 - 12 =6000 -12 =5988 Omega `
` therefore 5988 Omega ` resistance should connected in series.
