Two bodies of masses M and 4M are moving with equal kinetic energy. The ratio of their linear momenta is

A

`1: 8`

B

`1:4`

C

`1:2`

D

`4:1`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Here, `m_1 = M, m_2 = 4M`
Kinetic energy of a body of mass m having linear momentum p is given by
`K = (p^2)/(2m)`
As K is same
`:. (p_1)/(p_2) = sqrt((m_1)/(m_2)) = sqrt((M)/(4M)) = 1/2`
