Why alcoholic KOH is prefered than alcoholic NaOH in organic chemistry ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

KOH Is much more soluble in alcohol and produces `C_(2)H_(5)O^(-)`ions by the following equilibrium.
`C_(2)H_(5)OH+OH^(-)hArrC_(2)H_(5)O^(-)+H_(2)O`
This accounts for the use of alcoholic KOH in organic chemistry.
