An optical telescope called the Hubble telescope , an X- ray telescope named Chandra, an X-ray telescope and detector in the artificial satellite Astrosat are orbiting the earth.
(i) Some of the visible light rays coming from heavenly bodies are absorbed by atmosphere. Hence, the intensity of the light reaching the surface decreases.
(ii) Change in atmospheric pressure and temperature causes the light rays to change their path slightly and disturb the position of the image.
(iii) Optical telescopes cannot be used during day- time because of sunlight . During night , City lights and cloudy weather cause difficulties in observing the heavenly bosies.
(iv) X=ray telescopes are desigened to observe X-ray emitting objects from space. Earth 's atmosphere blocks almost all the X-rays coming from space.
To overcome all these difficulties , it is necessary to put these telesopes in space.
