Write a short note on genetically modified Bt crops.

i. The gene responsible for production of toxin is isolated from the bacterium, Bacillus thuringiensis and integrated with the gene of the crop plant using biotechnological processes. e.g. Bt cotton, Bt brinjal, etc.
ii. The toxin produced by the plant is fatal for pests.
iii. In case of Bt cotton, the toxin is produced by the leaves on which the boll worms feed. ltbr. iv. This toxin destroys the alimentary canal of the pest, thus resulting in its death.
