Write a note on the cloning of the sheep, 'Dolly'.

Explanation

i. Dolly was the first sheep to be born by cloning technique.
ii. The nucleus of an udder cell of a Finn Dorset sheep was introduced into the enucleated ovum of a Scottish sheep.
iii. The fused cell developed into an embryo which was then allowed to develop in the uterus of another Scottish sheep.
iv. Dolly, the cloned sheep however, showed characters of the Finn Dorset sheep (as per the chromosomes in the nucleus) and no characters of the Scottish sheep were visible.
