Define the following/write notes:
Displacement Reaction

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The reaction in which the place of the ion of a less reactive element in a compound is taken by another more reactive element by formation of its own ions is called a displacement reaction.
Example When zinc (Zn) dust is added to blue coloured copper sulphate `(CuSO_4)` solution, a colouless solution of zinc sulphater `(ZnSO_4)` is formed along with copper (Cu) metal.
`underset("sulphate")underset("Copper")(CaCO_(3(s)))+underset("Zinc")Zn_((S))rarrunderset("sulphate")underset("Zinc")(ZnSO_(4(aq)))+underset("Copper")(Cu_((s)))`
