At a site, low grade copper ores are avilable and Zinc and iron scraps are also avilable . Which of the two scraps would be more suitable for reducing the leached copper ore and why?

Text Solution

Zinc is present above the iron in electrochemical series. Thus zinc is stronger reducing agent than iron. So the reduction of copper salt with zinc will be faster than with iron. But zinc is costlier metal than iron, so using the scrap iron is advisable and advantageous.

Tin contains only 5 - 10 % of tin as SnO_(2) , the rest being Siliceous matter, wolfram and pyrites of iron copper and arsenic. It is not attached by water. Only molten tin reacts with steam liberating hydrogen. In stannous oxide, tin is +2 oxidising state. So stannous oxide is also described as tin (II) oxide Which of the following ionic species is more stable

Copper is the most moble of first row transition meals and occurs in small deposits in several countries ares of copper include chalcanthite (CuSO_(4)5H_(2)O) , afecamie (CuCHOH)_(3)) , cuprite (Cu_(2)O) Copper glance (Cu_(2)S) and rolachite (Cu_(2)(OH)_(2)CO_(3)) . However, 80% of the world copper production comes from the ore chalcopyrite (CuFeS_(2)) . The extraction of copper from chalopyrite in polves partial roasting, removal of Iron self-reduction. In sell reduction the reducing species is
