How is a mixture of oxides of Aland Fe separated ?

`Fe_2 O_3` is basic and `Al_2 O_3` is amphoteric. Hence aqueous solution of caustic soda or soda ash is used to dissolve `Al_2 O_3`, which forms solusie meta aluminate.
`Fe_2 O_3` remains as a residue and is separated by filteration.
