Kinetic energy of a particle on the surface is ` E_(0)` and potential energy is`-E_(0)/(2)`.
(a) Will the particle escape to infinity ?
(b) At some height its kinetic energy becomes `0.6 E_(0)`. What is potential energy at this height ?
(c) If the particle escape to infinity , what is kinetic energy of the particle at infinity ?

The correct Answer is:
A, B

(a) Total mechanical energy
`E = K+U = E_(0)- (E_(0)/(2)) = 0.5E_(0)`
Since , E is positive , Particle will escape to infinity.
(b) Potential energy `U = E-K = 0.5E_(0) -0.6E_(0) = -0.1E_(0)`
(c) At infinity, `U = 0`
`:. K = E = 0.5 E_(0)`.
