Two bodies of masses `1` kg and `2` kg are lying in `xy` plane at `(-1,2)` and `(2,4)` respectively. What are the coordinates of the centre of mass ?

A

(1,10/3)

B

(1,0)

C

(0,1)

D

None of these

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

Let the coordinates of mass mass be (x,y)
`x = ((m_(1)x_(1)+ m_(2)x_(2))/(m_(1)+ m_(2)) = (1 xx (-1) + 2 xx 3)/(3) = (-1 +4)/(3) = 1`
`y = (m_(1)y_(1) + m_(2)y_(2))/(m_(1) + m_(2)) = (1 xx 2+2xx4)/(3) = (2+8)/(3) = 10/3`
Therefore, the coordinates of center of mass be (1,10/3)`
