What is Schottkyy defect? What is the effect on the density of solids?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Schotty defect: It is basically a vacancy defect in ionic solid. It arises if some of the atoms or ions are missing from their normal lattice sites. In order to maintain electrical neutrality, the number of missing cations and anions are equal.
Schotty defect lowers the density of solid.
