Colourblindness is more frequent in males as compared to females. Comment.

Text Solution

Red-green colour blindness is a sex-linked recessive character. Its gene is located on X-chromosome. A female develops colour blindness only when her both X-chromosomes have gene for colour blindness. A female heterozygous for colour blindness (i.e., having gene for normal vision on one X and gene for colour blindness on the second X-chromosome) develops normal colour vision. Males have only one X-chromosome and no gene for colour vision on Y-chromosome. Therefore, males develop colour blindness even when they have single allele for colour blindness on their sole X-chromosome. Hence, chances of colour blindness are more in males than in females.
