What does the presence of vermiform appendix in man indicate?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Vermiform appendix in man is the remnant of caecum in herbivorous mammals that contains cellulose-producing bacteria. The enzyme helps to digest cellulose. The presence of non-functional appendix in man indicates that ancestors of man were herbivores but the descendants changed their food habits and became omnivores and the caecum being no longer useful, gradually got reduced.
