Explain antibiotic resistance observed in bacteria in light of Darwinian selection theory.

The bacterial colony is polymorphic in which some strains have antibiotic-resistant genes but in inactive form. In an antibiotic environment these genes become active and such bacteria survive while those lacking such genes in their genome, become susceptible and die soon.
