Why is nascent oxygen supposed to be toxic to aerobic life forms?

Nascent oxygen is toxic to aerobic forms because nascent oxygen is highly reactive. It can react with different organic molecules like proteins, carbohydrates and DNA present inside the cells of aerobic forms. This will lead to mutations (changes in DNA) and undesirable changes at metabolic level.
