Describe the shapes of BF(3)" and "BH(4)...

Describe the shapes of `BF_(3)" and "BH_(4)^(-).` Assign the hybridisation of boron in these species.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In `BF_3`, boron atom is in a state of `sp^2` hybridisation. Therefore, `BF_3` is a trigonal planar molecule. In `BH_4^-`, boron atom is in a state of `sp^3` hybridisation. Therefore, `BH_4^-` has tetrahedral geometry.
