Why is benzene extra ordinarily stable though it contains three double bonds?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In benzene, the six 7-electrons of three double bonds are delocalised. Since, the delocalised electrons have lower energy as compared to localised electrons, benzene molecule acquires extra stability.
