The space rockets are launched from west to east. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The earth rotates from west to east. The linear velocity of earth is maximum at the equatorial plane. The rocket will get this velocity also when launched from west to east.

A rocket has to be launched from earh in such a way that it never returns. If E is the minimum energy delivered by the rocket launcher what should be the minimum energy that the launcher should have if the same rocket has launcher from the surface of the moon ? Assume that the density of the earth and the moon are equal and that the earth's volume is 64 times the volume of the moon

The XI^(th) class students of ALLEN designed a rocket. The rocket was launched from cycle stand of ALLEN straight up into the air. At t = 0 , the rocket is at y = 0 with V_(y) (t = 0) = 0 . The velocity of the rocket is given by: V_(y) = (24t - 3t^(2))m//s for 0 le t le t_(b) where t_(b) is the time at which fuel burns out. vertically upward direction is taken as positive. An artificial satellite of the earth is launched in circular orbit in the equatorial plane of the earth and the satellite is moving from west to east. With respect to a person on the equator, the satellite is completing one round trip in 24 h . Mass of the earth is M=6xx10^(24)kg. For this situation the orbital radius of the satellite is

A space station is set up in space at a distance equal to the earth's radius from the surface of the earth. Suppose a satellite can be launched from the space station. Let v_(1) and v_(2) be the escape velocities of the satellite on the earth's surface and space station, respectively. Then
