Critical temperature for carbon dioxide ...

Critical temperature for carbon dioxide and methane are `31.1^@C` and -81.9 respectively. Which of these has stronger intermolecular forces and why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We know that higher the value of critical temperature of the gas the more easily it can be liquified which in turn reflects the stronger intermolecular attractive force of attraction . Since the critical temperature of `CO_2` is higher than `CH_4` hence the intermolecular force in `CO_2` are stronger than in methane.
