Write the equations for the reactions taking place at anode and Cathode in the lead storage battery.

It is a storage cell. It consists of lead as anode and a grid of lead packed with lead dioxide (PbO) as cathode. A 38% solution of sulphuric acid `(H_2 SO_4)` as electrolyte. The cell reactions when battery is in use are
Anode : `Pb(S) + S_(4)^(2-) to PbSO_(4)(s) + 2e^(-)`
Cathode : `PbO_2 (s) + SO_(4)^(2-) (aq) + 4H^(+) (aq) + 2e^(-1) to PbSO(4)^((S)) + 2H_(2) O(I)`
The overall cell reaction is `Pb(S) + PbO_2 (s) + 2H_(2) SO_(4) (aq) to 2PbSO_(2) (s) + 2H_(2) O(I)` On charging the battery the reaction is reversed.
