0.3780g of an organic chloro compound gave 0.5740g of silver chloride. Calculate the percentage of chlorine in the compound.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In this problem, Mass of the organic compound= 0.3780g Molecular mass of AgCl= 108+ 35.5 = 143.5
`because` 143.5g of AgCl contain chlorine= 35.5g
`therefore` 0.5740g of AgCl will contain chlorine= `(35.5)/(143.5) xx 0.5740= 0.132g`
`therefore` Percentage of chlorine in the given compound `=(0.142)/(0.3780)xx 100= 37.57`
