A man first swims in sea water and then in river water.
(i) compare the weights of sea water and river water displaced by him.
(ii) Where does he find it easier to swim and why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The density of sea water is more than the density of river water. So, by displacing less amount of water, the weight of the man is balanced by the upthrust generated. So, he finds easier to swim in sea water.

The diagram below shows the position of two divers A and B in river water at the depth of h_1 and h_2 respectively from the water surface. The two divers were later made to dive in a sea. For the same depth, they experience more pressure in the sea compared to that in the river. Why?

How does the pressure at a certain depth in water differ from that of the same depth in river water. Explain year answer.
