The weight of a body on the surface of the earth is 63 N what is the gravitational force on it due to the earth at a height equal to half the radiius of the earth?

Solution : If g be the acceleration due to gravity at the surface of the earth, then its value at a height h above the earth.s surface will be
`g.(g)/((1+(h)/(R_(e)))^(2))`
If m be the mass of a body, then its weight at a height h above the earth.s surface will be :
`mg.=(mg)/((1+(h)/(R_(e)))^(2))`
At a height `h=R_(c)//2`, we have
`mg.=(mg)/((1+(R_(e)//2)/(R_(e)))^(2))=mgxx(4)/(9)`
`=63xx(4)/(9)=28N`.
