Why are the cooling coils fitted on the upper portion of the refrigerator ?

The air in the upper part of the refrigerator becomes denser on cooling and hence moves downwards while the warm air in the lower part moves upwards. Thus convection currents are set up in the air and the whole space inside the refrigerator is cooled.
