What is meant by primary and secondary structure of proteins.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The specific sequence in which the various a-amino acids present in a protein are linked to one another is called its primary structure and the conformation which the polypeptide chains assume as a result of hydrogen bonding is called the secondary structure of the proteins. The two types of possible secondary structure are `alpha`-helix and `beta`-pleated sheet structure.
