One of the diameters of the circle circumscribing the rectangle ABCD is 4y = x + 7. If A and B are (-3, 4), (5, 4) then find the area of the rectangle.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The side AB is along the line y = 4 and mid point of AB is E (1, 4)

`implies` The centre of the circumscribing circle lies on the line x = 1. The centre also lies on the line 4y = x + 7
`imjplies` the centre of the circle is (2, 2)
Hence, AB = 8 units and BC = 4 units
`implies` Area of the rectangle ABCD = `4 xx 8 = 32 sq. units`
