An object of m kg with speed of v `m s^(-1)` strikes a wall at an angle `theta` and rebounds at the same speed and same angle. Find the magnitude of change in the momentum of object.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`vec(P)_(1)=mv sin theta hat(i)-mv cos theta hat(j)`
and `vec(P)_(2)=mv sin theta hat(i)+mv cos theta hat(j)`
So change in momentum,
`vec(DeltaP)=vec(P)_(2)-vec(P)_(1)=2m v cos theta hat(j)`
`|Delta vec(P)|=2mv cos theta`
