If the sound level in a room is increased from 50 dB to 60 dB, by what factor is the pressure amplitude increased ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Increase in number of dB.
`N_2-N_2=60-50=10dB`
Ratio of increase in intensity
`10=10log_(10)(I_2)/(I_1)implies(I_2)/(I-1)=(10)^1=10`
The relation between pressure amplitude and intensity is
`I=(p_0^2)/(2rhov)`
i.e., `Ipropp_0^2=(p_2)/(p_1)=sqrt((I_2)/(I_1))=sqrt(10)=3.16`
