How much copper can be obtained from 100 g of copper sulphate `(CuSO_(4))`?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`1 mol` of `CuSO_(4)` contains `1 mol (1 g "atom")` of `Cu`.
Molar mass of `CuSO_(4)=63.5+32+4xx16`
`=159.5 g mol^(-1)`
Now, molar mass of `Na_(2)SO_(4)=2(23.0)+32.0+4xx16.0`
`142 g mol^(-1)`
Mass `%` of sodium`=46/142xx100=32.39%`
Mass`%` of sulphur`=32/142xx100=22.54%`
Mass`%` of oxygen`=64/142xx100=45.07%`
Thus, `Cu` that can be obtained from `159.5 g` of `CuSO_(4) =63.5 g`
Therefore, `Cu` that can be obtained from `100 g` of `CuSO_(4)`
`=63.5/159.5xx100g=39.81 g`
