Why can Solvay process not be used for the manufacture of potassium carbonate?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The solvay process is used for the manufacture of sodium carbonate. It cannot be used for the manufacture of potassium carbonates as potassium bicarbonate is very soluble and does not crystallise like sodium bicarbonate. Therefore, potassium bicarbonate cannot be filtered out.
