The crystaline salts of alkaline earth m...

The crystaline salts of alkaline earth metals contain more water of crystallisation than the corresponding alkali metal salts. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The charge density of alkaline earth metal ions is higher than that of alkali metal ions. The higher the charger density of the cation, the higher the htydration energy.
So, the salts of alkaline earth metals have more water molecules of crytallisation than those of alkali metals.
