Give the order of hydrolysis in `SN^1` process for the following :

.

Text Solution

(i) `(a) gt (b) gt (c)` ( Due to the stabilities of `C^(oplus)` ion)
(a) reacts faster than `(b)` since there is more relief of steric strain by expanding its angle from `109.5^@` to `120^@` in the `T.S` leading to the formation of intermediate `3^@ C^(oplus)`.
(ii) `(a) gt (b)`. The halide `(a)` is expected to attain planarity (an essential condition for the formation of carbonium ions) more easly than `(b)` because of an axtra `(CH_2)` group in the bridge.
