There are two paths (a) and (b) for the preparation of a compound (A) (2-methylpent-1-en-3-yne), which path is correct and why? Also name the path (a) and (b).

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Path (b) is correct because in path (a) compound is vinyl halide which is not reactive, so reaction does not occur.
Path (a) is the alkylation of alkyne, whereas path (b) is propinylation (type of ethinylation), i.e., addition of propyne to unsaturated link like `(gtC=O)` group.
