Verify Rolle's theorem for the function ...

Verify Rolle's theorem for the function f(x) = ` x^(2) +x-6` in the interval [-3,2]

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given `f(x) =x^(2) + x -6, D_(f) =R`
Since f(x) is a polynomial function, therefore, f(x) is continuous and derivable for all x in R .
In particular ,
(i) f(x) is continuous in [ -3,2]
(ii) f(x) is derivable in (-3,2)
Also, f(-3) = `(-3)^(2) -3-6`
` f(2) =2^(2) + 2-6`
` Rightarrow f(-3) = f(2)`
