Three blocks, P, Q and R of masses 5 kg,...

Three blocks, P, Q and R of masses 5 kg, 4 kg and 3 kg respectively are connected by a light inextensible string and they are moved on a smooth horizontal plane. If a force of 24 N is applied to the string connected to R, tensions `T_(1) and T_(2)` in the string are

Text Solution

Answer (4)
Acceleration of blocks ,
`a = (" Net accelerating force")/ ("Total mass")`
` = (24 N)/((5+4+3)kg)`
` 2 m//s^(2)`
` T_(1) " is accelerating force for "(5+4)`kg , so
` T_(1) = ( 5+4) a = 18 N `
` T_(2)` is accelerating force for 5 kg ,so
` T_(2) = 5a = 10 N `
